41d agoMoses Simon remains one of the most exciting wingers in the Super Eagles setup, but his slow start to the new season has raised a few eyebrows.
Known for his explosive pace, fearless dribbling and ability to torment defenders, Simon has built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most dangerous wide players. When he is at his best, defenders often struggle to contain his movement and creativity.
However, the numbers so far this season haven't reflected the quality Nigerian fans have come to expect from the winger.
Simon is yet to register a goal or assist for Paris FC this season, leaving supporters wondering whether there is reason for concern with the Super Eagles’ next assignment only a few weeks away.
A Slow Start
The former Nantes winger has traditionally been capable of producing moments of magic even when his team is struggling. His ability to carry the ball, beat opponents one-on-one and create opportunities has made him an important attacking option for Nigeria.
But this campaign has started differently.
Despite getting opportunities to contribute, Simon is still searching for his first goal involvement of the season. For a player whose game is heavily built around attacking production, the lack of goals and assists naturally attracts attention.
That doesn't necessarily mean his performances have been poor.
Football isn't always reflected by statistics alone, and Simon's movement, ball progression and ability to stretch opposition defences can still provide value even when the final product isn't there.
Should We Be Worried?
For now, probably not.
Simon has enough experience and quality to turn things around quickly. Wingers can go through periods where goals and assists simply don't arrive, only to explode into form with one strong performance.
The bigger concern would be if the lack of production is accompanied by a consistent decline in his overall performances, confidence and involvement.
With the Super Eagles preparing for their next game, Simon will be hoping to rediscover his best form before reporting for international duty.
Nigeria needs players capable of creating something out of nothing, and Simon remains one of those players.
The question is simple:
Will Moses Simon find his spark before the Super Eagles need him?
For now, Nigerian fans can only hope the goals and assists start flowing soon.
