185d agoParis Saint-Germain produced a composed and convincing display to secure a 2–0 win over Liverpool FC in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg on April 8, 2026.
Playing in front of their home fans, the French side wasted no time asserting dominance, opening the scoring early through Désiré Doué. His deflected strike in the opening minutes set the tone for a match where PSG largely controlled possession and tempo.
Liverpool found themselves on the back foot for most of the encounter, struggling to break out of PSG’s relentless pressure. Manager Arne Slot’s tactical approach leaned toward caution, but it ultimately limited the visitors’ attacking threat.
Without their usual cutting edge, the Reds were unable to create meaningful chances, leaving their forward line isolated for long stretches of the game.
The hosts extended their lead in the second half thanks to a moment of brilliance from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The winger showcased his individual quality with a dazzling run before calmly slotting past the goalkeeper to double PSG’s advantage.
With players like Ousmane Dembélé also causing problems, PSG looked dangerous every time they moved forward, though they couldn’t add a third goal.
Despite the scoreline, Liverpool’s goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili delivered a standout performance, making several crucial saves to keep his team within reach. A potential third goal for PSG was also ruled out following a VAR review, offering the visitors a slim lifeline heading into the return leg.
With a two-goal deficit to overturn, Liverpool now face a daunting challenge at Anfield. Meanwhile, PSG will head into the second leg full of confidence, knowing their disciplined and dominant performance has placed them firmly in control of the tie.
