Mamelodi Sundowns have been told not to panic despite growing concerns among supporters over the team’s recent defensive performances. The Brazilians remain one of the strongest sides in South African football, but questions have emerged over their defensive solidity, prompting some fans to become increasingly anxious about the club’s form and performances. However, former Sundowns winger Koketso Mmotong believes the supporters need to remain patient and trust the team as the season progresses. Mmotong has backed the Pretoria giants to compete for major honours this campaign, insisting that there is enough quality within the squad to challenge on multiple fronts. Sundowns Still Have Plenty to Fight For While defensive lapses may have raised concerns, Mmotong believes it would be premature to judge Sundowns too harshly at this stage of the season. The former winger has urged supporters to avoid overreacting to isolated performances, pointing instead to the club's overall quality, experience and ambitions. Sundowns have established themselves as one of Africa's most competitive clubs in recent years, and expectations naturally remain high whenever the team takes to the pitch. That pressure, however, can sometimes lead to supporters demanding immediate answers whenever results or performances fall below their usual standards. Patience Could Be Key For Mmotong, the answer is patience rather than panic. Every team goes through periods where certain aspects of its game require adjustment, and defensive consistency appears to be one of the areas Sundowns will want to improve. With a long season ahead, there is still plenty of time for the coaching staff and players to address those concerns and find the balance required to compete at the highest level. The message from Mmotong is therefore clear: Sundowns supporters should keep faith in their team. Can the Brazilians Challenge for Everything? Despite the concerns surrounding their defence, Mmotong remains confident that Sundowns can compete for every major trophy available to them this season. That belief reflects the strength of the squad and the standards the club has set for itself. The challenge now is for the players to turn that potential into consistent performances while addressing the weaknesses that have caused concern among their supporters. For a club with Sundowns' ambitions, pressure is unavoidable. But if the team can tighten up defensively and maintain its attacking quality, there is little reason to write them off. The season is far from over, and according to Mmotong, there is no need for Sundowns fans to panic just yet.
