165d agoIn what is already being hailed as an instant classic, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Bayern Munich 5-4 in the highest-scoring semifinal in Champions League history. The reigning champions survived a late Bayern onslaught to take a slender advantage to Munich for the second leg.
First Half: Penalties and End-to-End Action
The match exploded into life in the 17th minute. Luis Diaz was brought down in the box by Willian Pacho, and Harry Kane stepped up to send Matvey Safonov the wrong way for his 54th goal of the season . Bayern’s lead lasted only seven minutes. Désiré Doué released Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who cut inside and curled a stunning finish into the far corner to make it 1-1 .

In the 65th minute, Dayot Upamecano headed in from Joshua Kimmich’s free-kick to make it 5-3 . Three minutes later, Luis Diaz produced a moment of magic, controlling Harry Kane’s pass and firing past Safonov to narrow the gap to a single goal at 5-4 .
The final 20 minutes were frantic. Bayern pushed desperately for an equalizer, but PSG held firm. In stoppage time, Kimmich saw a looping header cleared off the line by Pacho as the hosts clung on for a dramatic victory .
