209d agoManchester United delivered a strong second-half performance to defeat Aston Villa 3–1 at Old Trafford in Sunday’s Premier League clash.
After a tightly contested first half ended without goals, the match opened up after the break as the home side stepped up the tempo in search of the breakthrough.
The deadlock was finally broken when Casemiro rose highest to nod the ball into the net, giving the Red Devils the lead early in the second half.
Aston Villa quickly found a response through Ross Barkley, whose well-taken strike brought the visitors level and briefly shifted the momentum of the game.
However, Manchester United regained control as Matheus Cunha finished off a slick attacking move to restore the lead, with Bruno Fernandes playing a key role in the buildup.
The victory was secured late on when substitute Benjamin Šeško added a third goal, putting the result beyond doubt for the home side.
The win provides a major boost for Manchester United in their push for a Champions League spot, while Aston Villa were left frustrated after failing to capitalise on their chances in a competitive encounter.
