125d agoThe Tipngoal Knockout Championship quarterfinal clash between Bonez FC and Arewa FC lived up to expectations as two familiar rivals locked horns in a fiercely contested local derby.
From the opening whistle, both teams approached the game with intensity and determination, knowing each other’s strengths and weaknesses all too well. Bonez FC started brightly and created a number of early opportunities, but their finishing let them down at crucial moments.
Arewa FC gradually grew into the game and found the breakthrough through the in-form Ibrahim Hussaini, who continued his impressive tournament run by scoring his third goal of the Tipngoal Knockout Championship. The strike not only gave Arewa the lead but also moved him to the top of the competition’s scoring charts.
Arewa thought they had doubled their advantage when Audu Yusuf found the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside, ensuring the score remained 1-0. Despite Bonez FC’s efforts to respond, Arewa held firm and carried their slender advantage into the halftime break.
The second half saw a rejuvenated Bonez FC side emerge from the dressing room. Head Coach Prince Morgan made three tactical substitutions in an attempt to turn the game around, while Arewa FC’s Coach Aliyu responded with a change of his own to counter Bonez’s adjustments.
Bonez FC pushed relentlessly in search of an equalizer and came agonizingly close when striker Peter Akanam struck the crossbar with a well-taken free kick. The chance sparked belief among the Bonez supporters, but Arewa’s disciplined defense stood strong under increasing pressure.
As the final whistle sounded, Arewa FC celebrated a hard-fought 1-0 victory, securing their place in the semifinals of the Tipngoal Knockout Championship.
With the win, Arewa FC advance to face Yaba Stars in what promises to be another exciting semifinal encounter.
