44d agoSuper Falcons star Christy Ucheibe has finally found her new home โ and it is a big one!
After weeks of uncertainty following her departure from Benfica, Nigerian international Christy Ucheibe has completed her move to Saudi Arabian women's football giants Al Hilal.
The club officially announced on August 27 that the versatile Nigerian has signed a two-year contract, keeping her at Al Hilal until 2028.
And yes, Nigerian fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Christy Ucheibe is no longer a free agent!
From Benfica to Saudi Arabia:
Ucheibe's move comes after an incredibly successful six-year spell with Portuguese giants Benfica.
The 25-year-old joined Benfica in 2020 and quickly developed into an important member of one of the most dominant women's teams in Portugal.
During her time with the club, she made 179 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists across competitions. She also helped Benfica win six consecutive Portuguese league titles, alongside multiple domestic cup and League Cup trophies.
She left Benfica this summer with an impressive collection of medals and a reputation as one of Nigeria's most dependable players in Europe.
Now, she has taken on a completely new challenge.
Al Hilal Did Not Waste Time:
There had been plenty of questions surrounding Ucheibe's future after she became a free agent.
Considering her experience, versatility and performances for Nigeria, many supporters wondered why a player of her quality had yet to secure a new club.
Al Hilal, however, clearly saw the opportunity.
The Saudi club moved to secure her services, completing the signing on a free transfer after her Benfica contract expired.
And just like that, the waiting game is over.
A reunion with Asisat Oshoala:
Perhaps one of the most exciting aspects of the transfer for Nigerian supporters is that Ucheibe will not be walking into an entirely unfamiliar environment.
She will be joining fellow Super Falcons superstar Asisat Oshoala at Al Hilal.
That means two of Nigeria's biggest names in women's football will now share the same dressing room in Saudi Arabia.
Oshoala has already established herself in the Saudi women's game, and her presence could make Ucheibe's transition considerably easier.
For the Super Falcons, having two important international players playing for the same club could also create an interesting dynamic.
Another Nigerian Star Heads To Saudi Arabia:
Ucheibe's transfer is another indication of the growing presence of Nigerian women's footballers in Saudi Arabia.
The country has invested heavily in developing its women's football structure, and international stars have increasingly become part of that growth.
For Ucheibe, the move represents an opportunity to experience a different footballing environment while continuing her professional career at a time when she is entering an important stage of her development.
And unlike simply moving for the sake of moving, Ucheibe now has a chance to become one of the key players in Al Hilal's project.
Why Ucheibe Is Such A Big Signing:
One word perfectly describes what Ucheibe brings: VERSATILITY.
She is capable of playing in midfield and has also been trusted in defensive roles.
That flexibility has made her particularly valuable to the Super Falcons.
She can provide defensive protection in midfield, win battles, cover ground and drop deeper when required.
During her Benfica career, her defensive strength and tactical discipline made her a trusted member of the squad.
For Al Hilal, that versatility could prove extremely useful.
They are not simply signing a Nigerian international.
They are signing a player with years of European experience, a huge trophy collection and considerable international experience.
And Then Came WAFCON:
Ucheibe's move comes shortly after another important chapter with the Super Falcons.
She was included in Nigeria's squad for the 2026 WAFCON and featured as part of the team during the tournament. The Nigerian Football Federation listed her among the players in camp ahead of the competition.
That international experience will undoubtedly have helped maintain her profile as clubs assessed their options.
Now, she can finally concentrate on the next stage of her career.
A Fresh Start:
For Ucheibe, this is more than just another transfer.
It is a fresh start.
She leaves behind six years of European football and joins a rapidly developing women's football environment in Saudi Arabia.
At 25, she still has plenty of football ahead of her.
The next two years could therefore be extremely important.
If she establishes herself as a key player at Al Hilal, maintains her fitness and continues performing for Nigeria, this move could become another major chapter in an already impressive career.
And Nigerian fans will certainly be watching.
