KUBWA FOOTBALL LEAGUE 2025/2026 POST-MATCH PRESS CONFERENCE Diamond Star Sporting FC 3–3 Arewa FC Coach Aliyu Garba Ubale — Arewa FC 🎤 Q1. Coach, Arewa FC led at different stages but eventually finished 3–3. How would you assess your team’s overall performance? Coach Aliyu: Honestly, I am not happy with the team’s overall performance. After scoring two early goals, the boys relaxed and started to think the game was already won. We lost our concentration and allowed Diamond Star back into the game. That is something we have to learn from. 🎤 Q2. You scored three goals away from home. How pleased are you with the attacking performance? Coach Aliyu: Yes, I am happy with our attack. We scored three goals in an away match, and that is a positive thing for us. We created many chances and showed that we have the quality to score goals. 🎤 Q3. Arewa FC conceded three goals after taking the lead. What do you think went wrong defensively? Coach Aliyu: The boys relaxed and allowed Diamond Star to grow into the game. We also had some fitness issues in central defence. Prograss had just returned from injury after missing three days, while Kamal was sick and missed the last two training sessions. With Alex also out injured, they had to push themselves to play, and that affected us as the game progressed. 🎤 Q4. Yusuf and Ibrahim helped you make a very strong start. How important was that early advantage? Coach Aliyu: It was a perfect start for us. But the problem was that after getting that advantage, we allowed them to come back into the game. We should have controlled the match better. 🎤 Q5. How did you feel when Diamond Star started coming back into the match? Coach Aliyu: I was not happy at all. We started behaving as if we had already won the game, and that was a mistake. At this level, you cannot switch off because the opponent will punish you. 🎤 Q6. Did you expect such an open game with six goals? Coach Aliyu: No, I didn’t expect that. I was expecting a low-scoring game, but the match became very open and both teams created chances. 🎤 Q7. Prograss scored the equaliser in the 73rd minute. How important was that goal? Coach Aliyu: The goal gave the boys confidence again. After that, we almost won the match because we created several chances. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find the winning goal. 🎤 Q8. As defending champions, do you feel Arewa FC dropped two points today? Coach Aliyu: Yes, definitely. We were not supposed to drop those points. After the way we started the match and the chances we created, we should have finished the game with all three points. 🎤 Q9. What positive things will you take from this performance? Coach Aliyu: I will give the boys credit for their effort, especially the way they continued to fight after the game became difficult. We scored three goals and created many opportunities. But at the end of the day, it is not the result we wanted. 🎤 Q10. What needs to improve before your next match? Coach Aliyu: We have to do better in the next game. It is another away match, so we need to improve our concentration, fitness and defensive organisation. We cannot afford to relax after taking the lead. 🎤 Q11. How important is this result for the players’ confidence going forward? Coach Aliyu: The boys will bounce back in the next match. We will learn from this game, correct our mistakes and prepare properly. The season is still long, and we have to keep moving forward. 🎤 Q12. Finally, what is your message to the Arewa FC supporters after this 3–3 draw? Coach Aliyu: I want to thank them for their support. We know this is not the result they wanted, and it is not the result we wanted either. We will take responsibility, work on our mistakes and come back stronger in the next match.
