Tottenham’s Nightmare Season: Are Spurs Really Facing Relegation?

The 2025–26 campaign has been one of the most turbulent seasons in the modern history of Tottenham Hotspur. A club that usually competes for European places has instead spent much of the season battling near the bottom of the Premier League table, raising an uncomfortable question: could Tottenham actually be relegated? A Season Full of Instability Tottenham’s problems started early in the season. After replacing former manager Ange Postecoglou in 2025, Spurs appointed Thomas Frank as head coach. However, poor league results and a long run without wins eventually led to Frank’s dismissal in February 2026. The club then turned to Croatian coach Igor Tudor in an attempt to stabilize their season and avoid slipping into the relegation zone. Despite the change in management, Tottenham’s league form has remained inconsistent. Struggles on the Pitch Tottenham have struggled to find consistency in the Premier League this season. Defensive mistakes, injuries to key players, and a lack of attacking efficiency have all contributed to disappointing results. One of the team’s few bright spots has been Brazilian striker Richarlison, who has been the club’s top scorer this season. However, Spurs have endured long winless streaks and heavy defeats including a 4–1 loss to rivals Arsenal F.C. Which intensified concerns about their position in the table. By mid-March, Tottenham were sitting 16th in the league and only one point above the relegation zone, highlighting how dangerous their situation has become. Signs of Fight Despite their struggles, Tottenham showed some resilience in recent matches. In a dramatic game at Anfield, Richarlison scored a 90th-minute equalizer to earn Spurs a crucial 1–1 draw against Liverpool F.C.. The result ended a difficult run and gave the team a small boost in confidence as they attempt to move away from the bottom three. Could Tottenham Be Relegated? While Tottenham are dangerously close to the relegation zone, relegation is not inevitable. Historically, Premier League teams usually need around 36–40 points to guarantee survival, meaning Spurs still have a realistic chance to stay up if they win a few more games before the end of the season. Football analysts also point out that several clubs including West Ham and Nottingham Forest, are fighting the same battle near the bottom of the table, making the relegation race extremely tight. What Tottenham Must Do to Survive For Tottenham to avoid relegation, several things must improve quickly: • Better defensive organization to stop conceding late goals • More consistent goal scoring from the attacking players • Strong performances in crucial matches against other bottom-half teams If Spurs can collect a few wins in the final stretch of the season, they should have enough points to stay in the Premier League. Tottenham’s 2025–26 season has been chaotic, frustrating, and far below expectations. Managerial changes, inconsistent performances, and a lack of confidence have pushed the club dangerously close to the relegation zone. However, the battle is far from over. With several games still to play and the quality within the squad, Tottenham still have time to turn their season around. The coming weeks will determine whether Spurs survive the drop or experience one of the biggest shocks in Premier League history.
