32d agoNigeria’s Falconets will return to action at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Thursday, September 10, when they take on China PR in a crucial Group F encounter.
The match comes at a pivotal moment for Nigeria after the Falconets opened their campaign with a 2–0 defeat to Spain. China, meanwhile, made a flying start to the tournament, defeating debutants New Caledonia 5–0.
Match Details:
Match: China U-20 vs Nigeria U-20
Competition: FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2026 – Group F
Date: Thursday, September 10, 2026
Kick-off: 5:00 PM Nigerian time
Venue: Arena Sosnowiec, Sosnowiec, Poland
The fixture is scheduled for 5:00 PM in Nigeria, with the game kicking off at 6:00 PM local time in Poland.
Falconets Under Pressure:
Nigeria head into the encounter knowing that another defeat could seriously damage their hopes of progressing from Group F.
The Falconets showed flashes of quality against Spain but ultimately suffered a 2–0 loss, leaving them without a point after the opening round of matches.
With New Caledonia still to face later in the group stage, Nigeria will be looking for a strong response against China and, most importantly, a result that keeps their qualification hopes alive.
The Falconets have a proud record at the U-20 Women's World Cup, having reached the final twice — in 2010 and 2014 — and remain one of the tournament's most consistent teams.
China Arrive With Confidence
China will enter the match with plenty of momentum after their emphatic 5–0 victory over New Caledonia.
Forward Jiaxin was the standout performer in that game, scoring a hat-trick to become the first player to score three goals in a match at this year's tournament.
The Chinese striker has already warned that Nigeria will provide a much tougher test, but her explosive start means the Falconets' defence will have to remain alert throughout the contest.
China's victory also means they currently sit among the early leaders in Group F alongside Spain.
Previous Meetings:
The two teams have met previously at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
Their most recent tournament meeting ended in a 1–1 draw in 2018, while China recorded a 3–0 victory over Nigeria in their 2006 encounter.
That history adds another layer of intrigue to Thursday's meeting, although both teams will be focused firmly on the present tournament.
What Nigeria Must Get Right:
For the Falconets, the priority will be turning their possession and attacking moments into goals.
Against Spain, Nigeria struggled to find the breakthrough despite periods of promising play. Against a China side that has already demonstrated its attacking threat, defensive organisation will also be crucial.
Nigeria will need to avoid giving Jiaxin and her teammates space around the penalty area while being much more clinical when opportunities arrive.
How to Watch China vs Nigeria Live
The match is scheduled for 5:00 PM Nigerian time on Thursday, September 10.
Fans can follow the game through available FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup broadcast and streaming platforms in their territory. SuperSport lists the China PR vs Nigeria fixture, while DAZN via FIFA+ is listed as a viewing option in selected territories.
Fans unable to watch the match can also follow live scores, match statistics and updates through football live-score platforms.
A Must-Respond Moment for the Falconets:
This is more than another group-stage fixture for Nigeria.
After Spain's defeat, the Falconets need to show character and produce a response against a China side brimming with confidence.
A victory would completely change the mood around their campaign and put Nigeria back in contention for qualification. A defeat, however, would leave their route to the knockout stage looking extremely difficult.
Nigeria now have little room for error. The Falconets must rise to the occasion.
