35d agoNigeria’s D’Tigress suffered a narrow 71–67 defeat to Hungary at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, despite attempting 14 more shots than their opponents.
The Nigerian side had opportunities to take control of the contest but struggled to convert enough of their chances when it mattered most. Their greater shot volume highlighted their attacking intent, yet Hungary proved more efficient in making their possessions count.
D’Tigress stayed within touching distance throughout the game, refusing to allow Hungary to pull comfortably away. However, crucial missed opportunities and Hungary’s ability to execute during decisive moments ultimately separated the two teams.
The 14-shot difference underlined the frustration for Nigeria. D’Tigress created more opportunities to score, but their inability to turn that advantage into points left them chasing the game until the final moments.
Hungary, meanwhile, remained composed under pressure and did enough down the stretch to protect their four-point advantage and secure the 71–67 victory.
For D’Tigress, the result will be a difficult one to digest, particularly given the number of opportunities they generated. The team will now need to improve their efficiency and sharpen their execution as they continue their World Cup campaign.
Despite the setback, Nigeria can take encouragement from their ability to compete closely with Hungary. With better finishing and greater composure in key moments, D’Tigress will hope to turn similar performances into victories in their remaining games.
Final score: Hungary 71–67 Nigeria.
