December 30, 2025
284d agoArsenal concluded the year by emphatically ending Aston Villa's remarkable 11-match winning streak, securing a dominant 4-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium. The result strengthens their position at the top of the Premier League table, moving five points clear of Manchester City.
The first half saw Aston Villa as the more threatening side, with Ollie Watkins missing two clear-cut chances. The game, however, transformed shortly after halftime. Arsenal defender Gabriel, recently returning from injury, broke the deadlock in the 48th minute, capitalizing on a handling error by Villa's goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez. The floodgates opened four minutes later as captain Martin Ødegaard's pressing led to a goal for Martín Zubimendi.
Arsenal continued their ruthless display with a clinical finish from Leandro Trossard in the 69th minute, followed by a late strike from substitute Gabriel Jesus. Watkins secured a mere consolation goal for Aston Villa in added time.
Despite the defeat, Aston Villa maintains its third-place standing in the league. Arsenal's performance without the injured Declan Rice served as a significant statement, reinforcing their status as serious title contenders heading into the new year.
