The Super Falcons and Banyana Banyana are set for another heavyweight African showdown tonight, but this time the stakes are even bigger.
Both nations saw their WAFCON campaigns end at the quarter-final stage, meaning tonight's clash offers a second route towards the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. The winner advances to the next stage of the qualification process, while the loser's World Cup dream takes a major blow.
With that in mind, here are 5 things we could see when the two giants meet tonight.
1. A Cagey Start
Don't expect either team to throw everything forward from the opening whistle.
With so much at stake, both sides are likely to start cautiously, trying to settle into the game and avoid giving the opponent an early advantage.
One mistake could completely change the complexion of the match.
2. Nigeria Will Try to Take Control
The Super Falcons have plenty of attacking quality and will be expected to push for the breakthrough.
After creating opportunities but failing to score against Cameroon, Nigeria will be desperate to be more clinical tonight.
The pressure will be on the Falcons' attackers to turn chances into goals.
3. Banyana Banyana Will Make It Difficult
South Africa won't simply sit back and watch Nigeria dominate.
Banyana have experience against the Falcons and know exactly what it takes to hurt Nigeria.
Players such as Thembi Kgatlana give South Africa a serious threat on the counter, meaning Nigeria will have to remain alert whenever possession is lost.
4. The Match Could Go Down to the Wire
This rivalry has produced several closely contested encounters, and tonight could be another one.
With the World Cup at stake, expect plenty of battles in midfield, tactical adjustments and moments of pressure at both ends.
It wouldn't be surprising if the game remains undecided deep into the second half.
5. One Moment Could Decide Everything
A penalty.
A defensive mistake.
A brilliant individual effort.
A late winner.
When two teams of this quality meet in a winner-takes-the-next-step encounter, one moment can make all the difference.
And if the game goes according to script, the final minutes could be absolutely dramatic.
Nigeria and South Africa have both been given another chance to keep their World Cup dreams alive.
There is no AFCON trophy on the line tonight.
There is something arguably even more important: a chance to keep the road to Brazil 2027 alive.
