242d agoWest Ham United and Manchester United played out a dramatic 1–1 draw that delivered late-game emotion and key moments for both sides. The match, part of Matchweek 26 of the 2025–26 season, saw West Ham take the lead before Manchester United snatched a point in stoppage time, much to the delight of the travelling supporters.
West Ham, fighting to climb out of the relegation zone under manager Nuno Espírito Santo, showed real urgency from the first whistle. They pressed United high and looked dangerous down the flanks, with veteran midfielder Tomáš Souček at the heart of the action. Just after the break, West Ham’s hard work paid off when Souček found the back of the net, giving the hosts a deserved 1–0 lead in the 50th minute.
The goal came after a period of sustained pressure from the Hammers, with Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville creating space and testing the United defence. Souček reacted fastest in the box to convert a low cross, sending the home crowd into raptures and putting West Ham in a strong position.
Manchester United, managed by Michael Carrick, struggled to find their rhythm for much of the game. United dominated possession at times but lacked the cutting edge in the final third. Players like Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo tried to instigate attacks, while the forward line including Bryan Mbeumo and Amad saw shots blocked or saved.
As the clock ticked into stoppage time and West Ham looked poised for a crucial home victory, United launched one final surge. It was substitute Benjamin Šeško who became the hero for the Red Devils, flicking home an equaliser in the 96th minute from a precise Bryan Mbeumo delivery. The late strike rescued a point for United and ensured a dramatic finish to the contest.
The draw halted Manchester United’s bid for a fifth straight Premier League win under Carrick’s stewardship, but the resilience shown in clawing back a result will give them encouragement as they chase Champions League places. United remain competitive near the top of the table thanks to their consistent run of form.
For West Ham, the point feels like a small victory in their battle against relegation. Despite staying in 18th place in the league, the performance demonstrated fight and tactical discipline — key elements Nuno Espírito Santo will be keen to build on in the coming games.
Overall, the match emphasised Premier League drama: a gritty home side taking the initiative and a top-flight giant showing perseverance to snatch late glory. With both teams having clear objectives — survival for West Ham and European qualification for United — the draw keeps the season very much alive for each.
