Bournemouth Rally Late to Hold 10-Man Manchester United in Dramatic 2–2 Draw
March 20, 2026
204d agoBournemouth fought back in dramatic fashion to earn a 2–2 draw against Manchester United at the Vitality Stadium, with a late twist denying the visitors all three points.
What looked like a controlled outing for United quickly unraveled in the closing stages, as the hosts took full advantage of a numerical edge to rescue a result.
The game struggled to find rhythm in the opening half, but it came alive after the break. Manchester United edged ahead through Bruno Fernandes, who confidently dispatched a penalty to put his side in front.
That goal sparked a spell of dominance from the visitors, as they dictated possession and looked comfortable in control of proceedings.
Bournemouth, however, refused to back down and responded with renewed energy. Their persistence paid off when Ryan Christie found the net to level matters, capping off a well-constructed attacking move.
United regained the lead not long after, albeit in fortunate fashion, as a defensive error led to an own goal that handed them a 2–1 advantage.
The decisive moment came late on when Harry Maguire was sent off after conceding a penalty, leaving United a man short at a critical point in the match.
The dismissal shifted the momentum completely, giving Bournemouth both belief and a clear path back into the contest.
Seizing the opportunity, Eli Junior Kroupi stepped up and converted the resulting spot-kick to bring the hosts level.
Despite a tense finish, neither side could find a winner, as Bournemouth celebrated a hard-earned point while Manchester United were left to reflect on a game that slipped from their grasp.
