United Rally From Early Setback to Beat Palace 2-1 at Old Trafford
March 1, 2026
223d agoIn a dramatic Premier League contest on 1 March 2026, Manchester United came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. The visitors stunned the home crowd early when Maxence Lacroix rose highest to head Palace into a surprising lead just four minutes into the game.
Palace’s quick start unsettled United, who struggled to find rhythm in the opening exchanges as the Eagles defended resolutely and looked dangerous on the break.
The turning point arrived midway through the second half. Palace’s early hero Lacroix became the villain when he was sent off in the 56th minute for pulling back Matheus Cunha as the last defender, earning a straight red card and giving United a numerical advantage.
From the resulting penalty, captain Bruno Fernandes stepped up confidently and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Dean Henderson to level proceedings in the 57th minute.
With momentum firmly swinging in their favour, United pressed for a winner. Just eight minutes after Fernandes’s penalty, the hosts took the lead when Benjamin Sesko got on the end of a superb Bruno Fernandes free kick and powered a header past Henderson in the 65th minute. Sesko’s goal continued his rich scoring run and proved the decisive strike in a pulsating second half.
Despite being reduced to ten men, Palace rallied late and had chances to equalize, but United’s defence held firm. The win lifted United up to third place in the Premier League table, extending their impressive unbeaten run under interim manager Michael Carrick and strengthening their bid for a top-four finish.
Palace, meanwhile, remain mid-table but will be disappointed after a spirited first-half performance slipped away after the red card.
Overall, the match was a tale of two halves: Palace’s bright start showcased their attacking threat, while United’s resilience and leadership from Fernandes helped turn the game around. It was a hard-fought and entertaining encounter that kept fans on edge until the final whistle.
