POST-MATCH PRESS CONFERENCE
Diamond Star Sporting FC 3–3 Arewa FC
Coach Martins — Diamond Star Sporting FC
1. How would you assess your team’s overall performance today?
Honestly, we switched off at the beginning and conceded two avoidable goals. We need to concentrate better and learn to kill games off when we have the chances.
2. What pleased you most about the team’s response after going behind?
The boys listened to the instructions and showed good character. They kept fighting and never gave up.
3. How satisfied are you with the attacking performance?
We created a lot of chances and could have scored more, but we didn’t take all of them. We’ll keep working on that.
4. What needs to improve defensively?
We need more concentration and better communication. We like to keep the ball and attack, but we also have to defend as a team.
5. How difficult was it to manage the changing momentum?
It was difficult, but the boys have a strong mentality. They don’t like to accept defeat, so they kept pushing until the end.
6. How important was Mufadil’s goal to make it 3–2?
Very important. We always believed we could get back into the game. The boys believed in themselves and knew we could compete against anyone.
7. What did you demand from the players in the final stages?
I demanded character and resilience. I told them to keep playing and stay focused because we would get our chance.
8. What does this result tell you about competing against the defending champions?
We were fired up before the match. We knew Arewa would make it difficult, but we also wanted to enjoy the attacking football from both teams. The boys showed they can compete.
9. How would you describe your start to the campaign?
The boys need to do more because we want to win matches. I feel we deserved to win today, but overall, we’ll continue to improve with every game.
10. What will you work on before the next match?
Definitely our defence and communication between the players. Those are areas we need to improve.
11. How important is this result for the players’ confidence?
It will give them confidence. It’s still early in the season, but they can dream big and believe they can compete for the league.
12. What is your message to the supporters?
They should expect better results and better football from us. We’ll keep working hard to make sure we put smiles on their Here’s a more natural, spontaneous version of Coach Martins’ answers, while keeping his original meaning and football tone:
