235d agoBorussia Dortmund delivered a commanding performance in the UEFA Champions League clash against Atalanta, securing a crucial first-leg advantage in front of their home fans at Signal Iduna Park. The German side started on the front foot and were rewarded early when Serhou Guirassy struck in the opening minutes, finishing confidently after a sharp attacking move that caught the Italian defence off guard.
Dortmund continued to dictate the tempo through the midfield, with Julian Brandt pulling the strings and Marcel Sabitzer providing energy and control. Their pressure paid off again before halftime when Maximilian Beier doubled the lead with a composed finish, giving the hosts a deserved cushion. Atalanta, led by captain Marten de Roon, tried to respond through the creativity of Teun Koopmeiners and the movement of Gianluca Scamacca, but clear chances were limited.
In the second half, goalkeeper Gregor Kobel stood firm whenever called upon, denying attempts from Ademola Lookman and Charles De Ketelaere as Atalanta searched for a way back into the game. Dortmund’s defence, marshalled by Mats Hummels, remained organized and disciplined, frustrating the visitors’ attacking rhythm.
The result gives Dortmund a valuable advantage heading into the return leg in Bergamo, while Atalanta will need a much stronger attacking display on home soil to overturn the deficit. With quality players on both sides, the second leg promises to be an intense battle as both clubs fight for progression in Europe’s elite competition.
