The Super Falcons’ journey at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has come to an end after Nigeria suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Cameroon in the quarter-finals. After lifting the trophy in the previous edition, Nigeria arrived at the tournament with hopes of defending their title. However, those hopes were ended by a determined Cameroonian side that held on for a crucial victory. One Goal Decides It Cameroon made the difference with a first-half goal from Myriam Nyadjou, giving the Indomitable Lionesses the lead and putting Nigeria on the back foot. The Falcons spent much of the game looking for a response, pushing forward in search of the equaliser. But despite their efforts, they couldn't find the goal that would have taken the game in another direction. Cameroon stayed organised and protected their advantage until the final whistle. A Disappointing End to the Title Defence For Nigeria, the result marks a disappointing end to their WAFCON campaign. The Super Falcons came into the competition among the teams expected to challenge for the title, but their quarter-final exit means they will not get the chance to defend their crown. For Cameroon, meanwhile, the victory sends them into the semi-finals and gives them fresh belief in their own title ambitions. What Happens Next for Nigeria? Although the WAFCON dream is over, Nigeria's international campaign still has an important chapter ahead. The Falcons will now turn their attention to their World Cup qualification hopes, with the next stage providing another opportunity to secure a place at the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. It is a disappointing night for Nigerian football, but the Falcons will have to regroup quickly. Cameroon 1–0 Nigeria. The defending champions are out, and Cameroon marches on.
