Late Chelsea Comeback Stuns West Ham in Five-Goal Premier League Thriller
January 31, 2026
252d agoIn an explosive Premier League encounter on Saturday, January 31, 2026, Chelsea produced a thrilling late comeback to beat West Ham United 3–2 in front of their home fans. West Ham came out strong in the first half, taking the lead through Jarrod Bowen in the opening minutes and then doubling their advantage with a goal by Crysencio Summerville as Chelsea struggled to find rhythm and penetration going forward. The Blues found themselves on the back foot for much of the first 45 minutes, with West Ham’s early pressure paying dividends.
Chelsea’s response in the second half was much more assertive after tactical changes by manager Liam Rosenior. The shift paid off midway through the period when João Pedro headed home to get Chelsea back into the game, sparking belief amongst the Stamford Bridge crowd.
Momentum continued to swing as Marc Cucurella climbed highest from a set piece to level the score, setting up a dramatic finale. With the game poised at 2–2 heading into stoppage time, Enzo Fernández bundled in a loose ball to snatch a dramatic winner and complete Chelsea’s comeback.
The contest didn’t finish without controversy as tempers flared in the dying moments. West Ham’s Jean-Clair Todibo saw red after an off-the-ball incident, leaving the visitors to finish with ten men. The result preserves Chelsea’s strong recent form under Rosenior and keeps them firmly in the race for European qualification, while West Ham will rue letting a two-goal advantage slip away.
Despite a tough start, Chelsea’s resilience and tactical adjustments turned the game on its head in a dramatic second half. It was a memorable afternoon for the Blues faithful and a reminder of how quickly fortunes can shift in the Premier League, showcasing both the attacking spirit and defensive resolve needed in tight league battles.
