NPFL: Inter Lagos Appoint Olusanjo Olutayo as Interim Head Coach
Can he turn things around?
October 14, 2026
1d agoInter Lagos have appointed Olusanjo Olutayo as their interim head coach, announcing the move in a welcome graphic as the club looks to turn around a difficult start to its first season in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Olutayo replaces Shakiru Giwa, who was appointed in March 2025 and guided Inter Lagos from the Nigeria National League to promotion before leaving after the club’s slow start to the 2026/27 season. The club also dissolved the technical crew when it announced his exit, so Olutayo takes charge of a reshaped backroom.
A mixed start to life in the top flight
Inter Lagos lost their opening NPFL fixture 2-1 at Shooting Stars, then suffered a heavy home defeat to city rivals Sporting Lagos in Matchday 2. They did show what they can do on the road, beating nine-time champions Enyimba 1-0 in Aba for their first-ever win in the top division, with Ezekiel Moses scoring the only goal.
The task ahead
Olutayo’s challenge is to make that Enyimba performance the standard rather than the exception: steady the team after the coaching change, improve consistency and give the newly promoted side a foothold in Nigeria’s top division. All eyes will be on how the interim coach sets the team up in his first matches.
