274d agoHost nation Morocco continued their impressive run by defeating Cameroon 2-0 at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat. The Atlas Lions, buoyed by passionate home support, took control early on and never looked back, showcasing a blend of tactical discipline and clinical finishing that ultimately sealed their place in the semi-finals. The victory marks Morocco’s first semi-final appearance since 2004, a significant milestone for the tournament hosts.
The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Brahim Díaz rose to meet a precise corner delivered by captain Achraf Hakimi, heading the ball past Cameroon’s goalkeeper to give Morocco the lead. Díaz’s goal continued his remarkable scoring streak at the tournament and highlighted his influence as the attacking fulcrum for the hosts. Morocco’s early dominance forced Cameroon into a reactive stance, absorbing pressure while looking for opportunities on the counter-attack.
Morocco extended their advantage in the 74th minute through Ismael Saibari, whose composed finish inside the box doubled the lead after a set-piece situation. Cameroon, traditionally known for their physicality and counter-punching ability, struggled to break down Morocco’s organized defense and create clear chances. Despite introducing fresh legs in the second half and pushing forward in search of a comeback, the Indomitable Lions couldn’t find a way through a disciplined Moroccan backline.
The result sees Morocco advance with confidence to the AFCON 2025 semi-finals, where they will face the winner of the upcoming Algeria vs Nigeria quarter-final tie. For Cameroon, the defeat ends their quest for a sixth continental crown, leaving supporters proud of a hard-fought campaign but ultimately outplayed by the tournament hosts. Morocco’s triumph underscores their status as one of the continent’s elite sides and keeps alive hopes of lifting the trophy on home soil.
