275d agoAntoine Semenyo’s highly anticipated move to Manchester City has been confirmed, marking one of the standout transfers of the January 2026 window. The Ghanaian winger has completed a long-term deal with the Premier League champions, signing a contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2031.
Reports suggest Manchester City agreed an initial fee in the region of £62.5 million–£64 million with AFC Bournemouth, beating off competition from clubs including Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham to secure his signature.
One of the talking points of the summer’s transfer window is the squad number Semenyo will wear for his new club. He has chosen to wear the number 42 shirt, a number with historic significance at Manchester City, most notably worn in the past by club legend Yaya Touré during a period of sustained domestic success.
For Semenyo, inheriting this iconic shirt is both a tribute to the club’s heritage and a personal source of motivation as he embarks on this new chapter. The move to Manchester City represents a major step forward in Semenyo’s career.
Not only does he join a team regularly competing for Premier League and Champions League honours, but he also enters a highly competitive attacking unit where he can refine his technical game and tactical understanding under one of the world’s most respected managers. Semenyo himself has acknowledged the privilege of joining City and expressed confidence that his best football is still to come as he adapts to his new surroundings and helps the club pursue multiple trophies.
For Manchester City fans, the arrival of Semenyo offers fresh excitement and added attacking depth as the club looks to maintain its position among England and Europe’s elite.
